Lectures and Workshops
An experienced educator, Eli Kaplan-Wildmann is available to be booked for experiential lectures and workshops in the USA during the weeks before Pessach. See below for available sessions as well as a bio. Feel free to inquire about availability via email.
  • The OVERSIZED Haggadah +
Using a huge version of the 12 haggadah cards, a variety of activities can take place that are perfect for educational settings. Participants can tour through the seder in a group, learning about the secrets of the Unbound Haggadah but also the structure and traditions of the seder. Or each card can be a station with an activity (as long as additional educators are available to implement the activities), and participants can experience several or all of the activities. See below for an image of the Oversized Haggadah.
  • An Unbound Workshop +
AGE: 8-15. In this session, participants will begin by looking at a copy of UNBOUND. After understanding the ways in which graphics and design can both convey interpretations and generate questions, each participant will come up with a new design for a seder plate. Their seder plate will emphasize ideas that are important to them personally, and when showing it at their own seder they will have a chance to get the adults asking them questions.
  • Creation of a Haggadah +
AGE: High School/Adult. In this participatory lecture, Eli will give an overview of the creation of UNBOUND, showing the elements of research that went into its design as well as sketches and other stages of the creative process. The haggadah contains some secrets and "Easter eggs" (it's that time of year), and this lecture is a chance to show them all.
  • Structure and Storytelling in Jewish Ritual +
AGE: Adult. The seder is a structured storytelling event - an evening of experiential theater, containing elements that would be welcome in avant garde arts circles. The creation of UNBOUND involved using structure to convey story. How can we capture this creative spirit in our seder? Can the same principles be applied to other moments of Jewish ritual? This workshop will explore answers to all these questions and more. Participants will leave with specific ideas to implement in their seder and also in other aspects of Jewish life.
